Hutch wasn't in the mood for conversation with this headache. Especially for the 'let's not talk about it' kind of conversation.
This need happened in the most unusual times; when he was cooking, when he was putting together a new model of a ship, or when he was just watching some of his favorite horror movies.

Recently, Hutch's conversations with God had been reduced to nonexistent.
A home with capital H. A place to live with a family – with wife, kids, even with a dog. Just looking at that photo was breaking Hutch's heart.
"You know, David, I didn't realize you two were that close, until his transfer here," John said with some kind of wonder in voice.
It’s a zine story, published in Timeless 3 last year.
"You've never even thought about it, have you Hutch?" Starsky asked slowly. "Maybe we really can't be partners anymore. The word partner means 'equal'. We're not," he shrugged. It was just a simple statement – no bitterness, no complaints. As if he didn't even know how much it hurt Hutch.
If somebody deserved to be a cop, it was Starsky. If I ever had any doubts – and I did have when I first saw him – that changed completely after today’s simulation on the training field. We were the only team that finished the test and I was the only cadet who hadn’t suffered any injury at all during this police action.
“Hutch, I never realized you were even less interested in the courses than I am, but don’t you think that ending up in the hospital to avoid it is a little exaggerated?” Starsky said warmly, staring at their entwined fingers. “You didn’t have to go that far, but I have to admit, you are very creative. Ten points for style, but zero for ruining my health.”

Hutch held his gaze. “Just give me some time, okay?” That was all he asked for. Time to cut his heart out and stomp on it until it was just a worthless pump. Nobody needed it anyway.
This heart quit for a few minutes two years ago and that’s when we lost our immortality. We were no longer superheroes.
I glanced at him and froze. He didn’t have his shirt on – and that meant he was also tired, because he apparently forgot to put it on. The sight of his scars woke me up more effectively than cold water.
“If it makes you so unhappy, why don’t you ask your captain to partner you with someone else?” she suggested after their lips parted. She knew immediately that she had said something wrong, and she could feel his heartbeat quicken under her palm.
Hutch lifted the gun and aimed.
Hutch pointed at the Beretta.
"And how will you explain that?"
He didn't think Starsky could look even more lost than he already had, but now there was only raw agony in his partner's eyes.
"I won't have to explain..."

Most likely Hutch had just wrecked the most beautiful thing that had ever happened to him and there was no coming back this time.

His body, his mind, even the emptiness within ached.
For some moments in life, there just were no words. The realization came to Starsky during one of the most boring stakeouts; trapped in a run-down motel as they kept watch over their suspect.
When Starsky was first back on duty after being shot all he could do was work behind a desk. Dobey, seeing his sergeant’s anguish, assigned him to work with the police photographers. Sorting through the mug shots and crime scene photos was not a very interesting activity for someone like Starsky, but he decided to take advantage of this opportunity to catch up with the novelties on the photography market.
An empty desk; that’s all that’s left. There is nothing except a lamp and a typewriter on it; nothing that could remind him of the former cop working there.
When one door closes, another door opens. Was Starsky my opened door?
Sometimes the need is so strong it wakes me up in the middle of the night and it takes all my strength not to scream my lungs out.
Hutch was sure of two things that evening. First – there was no way he could escape from that cellar being cuffed to a pipe which held to the wall in the corner a little bit too firmly for his liking, and to make it worse, Carter took the key for the handcuffs as well as his wallet and the gun. And second – his partner had apparently lost his mind.
Hutch is trying to do the right thing.
The words "New York" and "Joe Durniak" caught Hutch's attention.
“I tried to keep your heart beating,” he struggled to explain, putting his hand lightly over Hutch’s chest.
12th of August – a night of shooting stars.
"W-why?" Starsky looked at him, confused. Hutch could be asking for anything with that word.
"Why didn't you tell me?" his partner clarified coldly.
Starsky believed in life after death, but in his wildest dreams he hadn’t imagined that it would be like that. When he was alive, there were just two options available – hell or heaven. The third one surprised him exceedingly.
"I just don't want to take your life from you," Starsky whispered weakly.
Hutch often talked about the place where he was really happy – a place where he had spent almost all his childhood – but since his grandfather's death, this was where Hutch usually spent his time when he needed to just be alone.
Starsky used to say that all sunsets and sunrises were the same unless there was a beautiful girl by his side; and even then he would rather take her somewhere where they could dance from dusk till dawn.
No, everything was not all right. The most important question was still unanswered.
Starsky was so used to the way his body looked after the shooting that he hardly remembered how it was before.
"You split up, right?" That was not even a question, just a silent and simple statement.
We were sitting across from each other at our desks, but the silence wasn't unsettling anymore. I knew I screwed up, but I had to believe there was still hope for us. Without Starsky, there was no future and the last few hours proved that right.
Don’t ask. Don’t ask. Don’t ask.
“Why do you?” It wasn’t even a whisper.
This time it was Starsky who hesitated. As if he wasn’t expecting this question.
Sometimes change was the most beautiful thing that could happen and Hutch was ready to embrace it with his entire life this time.
"Yeah, Hospital No.5 isn't my fragrance either."
Hutch, I think it's cold in hell. And there is most certainly no one there.
“Have you ever thought about publishing it?” he asked.
