In London in the early years of Victoria's reign, Dr Kenneth Hutchinson meets David Starsky, an actor. A close friendship develops, but Starsky isn't sure what to make of Hutch's friend, Jack Mitchell, or the frightening events that follow on his arrival.

Hutch wasn't in the mood for conversation with this headache. Especially for the 'let's not talk about it' kind of conversation.

Just when their present is at its rosiest, Hutch allows a terrible worry about what might be best for Starsky's future to take hold of him.

Once upon a time, in a city by a bay, there lived two handsome knights...

This story first appeared in the zine Code 7 #4 in 1987. It can be read independently, however, it was originally a sequel to the short story The Hours Between Four and Nine by April Valentine, published in the zine, No Pants, No Badge, No Gun in 1985. That story proposed that, during A Coffin For Starsky, Starsky & Hutch returned to Starsky's apartment to rest during a period of time not shown in the episode. While there, the intensity of what they were going through and the desperation of what might be Starsky's last hours resulted in their making love. However, afterwards, Starsky had to be hospitalized, and the tag of the show, which showed him completely recovered, had Huggy explaining to Dobey and Hutch that Starsky was making plans to vacation "where all the New York secretaries like to go."

A Fine Storm picks up that story two years later, immediately after the tag for The Plague.

Ken got up, and walked to the door in stocking-feet. Opening the door revealed Dave Starsky, loaded down with what looked like everything he owned.

Ken took the picture in with a terrible suspicion. They wouldn't. They couldn't. The irony would be tragic.

Starsky smiled and elbowed past him. "It's your lucky day, Choirboy...  I happen t'be your new roomie..." Starsky announced. Wearing a white T-shirt blazoned with the Academy seal and navy-blue sweats, he stood there, surprisingly blue eyes just beaming.

"No," Ken said, blankly. Then, with dawning disbelief, and half an octave lower, he repeated himself. "No."

On Halloween, Starsky faces a friendly spirit.

Starsky withdrew his hand. His touch would only add to his partner's agony. He slowed the Torino and scanned the deepening twilight. The setting sun cast a golden halo around the blond head, accenting the need stated in glazed blue eyes. He could deny this man nothing.

Starsky and Hutch accept an undercover assignment to lure serial killers preying on gay couples at the same time that they're dealing with their own repressed feelings about each other.

The title says it all.

A silly game of one-upmanship threatens to ruin the partner's friendship, until something happens that changes everything.

A young Jew and a German Officer become unlikely allies.

I still saw indecision in his eyes and I wanted more than anything to reassure him. It was hard to see Starsky vulnerable and know that I was the reason for it. But I understood it. He'd been raised in an environment where the things we were about to do were dirty words, the people who did them the worst kind of perverts. I shook my head. 'How could love like this be anything but a gift and worth anything that we might have to go through because of it?'

Rachel Starsky is forced to send her thirteen year old son away

After finally recovering from Gunther's shooting, Starsky makes different plans for spending New Year's Eve with Hutch.

This need happened in the most unusual times; when he was cooking, when he was putting together a new model of a ship, or when he was just watching some of his favorite horror movies.

He said, "Kenny." Kenny just sat there. He didn't say a word. He was just looking at the man he just killed. Hutch in a firmer voice, "Kenny, it's okay, it's me Uncle Ken."

'It has been almost six months since Starsky’s reinstatement as a BCPD homicide detective, and Hutch is no longer sure how long he can endure this extra-tetchy, morose, antagonistic version of his partner who seems to find a perverse delight in pissing him off for no reason whatsoever. Like Starsky can’t stand his physical presence. Like Starsky wants to drive him away and preserve a respectable distance between them after months of him hanging around Starsky throughout Starsky’s arduous recuperation. Like Starsky is fighting him, fighting him when there isn’t a conflict to begin with, or fighting something that has to do with him.'

I forgot how big of a space it was to fill especially when you're not here.....

Adrift is a tale about a man's grief, and his struggles to find peace in the aftermath of loss. 

This story takes place at the end of Sweet Revenge, only in this universe, Starsky's heart refused to beat again.

"Neurosis Avenue?" Hutch glared over his shoulder, then burst into a paroxysm of coughing, snorting, and laughter, followed by an outrageous sneeze and howl of pain.

Lost in a time warp tour through all the times Starsky had been in mortal danger, Hutch passed his own car in the parking lot, pulled up short and realized, shocked, that he was looking for his old LTD.

Stop it, Hutchinson. What the fuck are you doing here anyway? He's not here, you know he's not here. He's lying in a hospital bed, half dead or half alive. He's been there before and so have you. You've got a job to do and standing here trying to find some meaning in faded tee-shirts and old Fats Domino records isn't getting that job done. He's gonna need you to come home to if he makes it and there are people out there who want to deny you both the chance.

Starsky is suffering from the after-Christmas blues and Hutch tries to help.
